Despite dominating on the pitch and creating more chances, FC Bayern were beaten 2-0 by Borussia Dortmund in Der Klassiker on Saturday evening. "We weren't effective enough. We could have scored in the decisive moments. We’re hugely disappointed with our performance," said Thomas Müller. Board member for sport Max Eberl continued with the criticism: "There was too little energy, too little will." Now it's time to draw the right conclusions from the game: "We need to show a different side to ourselves against Heidenheim," demanded Sven Ulreich. fcbayern.com has all the post-match reaction for you here.

Reaction to the home game against Borussia Dortmund

Max Eberl (board member for sport): “There was too little energy, too little will – everything you want to see was too little for us today. We know that the boys have the quality, but they have to show that on the pitch. Against Dortmund we need to play a special game, and we didn't put that on display. We played a modest game today. Our gap to the top of the table is much bigger than to those behind us. We have to do our job and win our games. We should represent Bayern Munich in the way the club deserves to be represented. An awkward task awaits us next week in Heidenheim. Bayern Munich has to show up – the Bayern Munich we know – and wear the jersey as it ought to be worn. It must also be the key preparation for our match against Arsenal."

Thomas Tuchel: "We’re very disappointed with the way we played because we don't feel that we brought the necessary spirit onto the pitch at any stage. We didn't do enough of the elementary basics that are needed to succeed. We also didn't get lucky in the key moments. Overall, it wasn't a high-level display from us. It was an average game and we adapted to it. We lacked pace, bite, and passion. It was simply not enough. We thought we wouldn't see a game like that again. We had something completely different in mind, but we didn't bring it onto the pitch."

Sven Ulreich: "We didn't put in a good performance today. We lacked energy right from the start and we lacked spirit. Unfortunately, we've had games all season where we've lacked creativity and energy. That's how you concede games easily and is of course very disappointing. We now need to show a different side to ourselves against Heidenheim, perform as a team and show what we can do and what we're made of. We need more energy, more power, so that we can win the games in the coming weeks."

Thomas Müller: "We're hugely disappointed with our performance. The international break didn't do us any good. It was also a bit of a dampener that Leverkusen once again got another last-minute winner. But that's no excuse. There are always sticking points in the game itself. It was a lifeless performance; we weren't effective enough. We could have scored in the decisive moments. Dortmund played decent football for 90 minutes but didn't do anything out of the ordinary. They deserved to win. We had hoped that today would be the kick-start for the coming weeks. We played too wildly in the first half. Individually, it was too little. We need to get back into the flow. Our display today was disappointing."

Joshua Kimmich: "I do wonder how we can display such an attitude. It's frustrating and inexplicable. You have to be on fire against Dortmund, already the day before the match. We didn't show that at all today. We presented ourselves as if nothing was at stake. That can't happen to us. We're not managing to do our job. We must win every game if we still want to have a chance. We don't need to look at Leverkusen. As players, we should go home and think about it. With such an attitude we'll have a hard time against any opponent."

Reaction from the Borussia Dortmund camp

Sebastian Kehl (sporting director): "Of course, we were able to train more intensively in the last two weeks and complete many sessions in a larger group. We made good use of that. You could see that today. I'm really pleased for the coach. We want to continue like this because we still have a lot to do. The match plan worked well. Everything worked well."

Edin Terzić (head coach): “We’re absolutely delighted and extremely satisfied. It was a deserved win. We realised that we had to be bold and also effective. To do that, you also need a bit of luck, which you equally have to work for. We could have scored the 2-0 earlier. Keeping a clean sheet is the basis for getting something here. It's our fifth win in a row. Now come the exciting weeks. If we play like this, it'll difficult to beat us. We showed our Champions League colours."

Mats Hummels: "It was a great team performance. We didn't let them get the better of us. We could have done even better on the ball. Overall, we were much better than we have been here in recent years. As a team, we worked well together in defence. It was important that we put in another game like that here. For us, internally, it was a statement that we play proper football and that we can hold our own against top teams."
