And the results, in Spain at least, have proven something of a surprise.

This comes amid confirmation that Real Madrid star David Alaba currently earns more money than any other player in the country’s top-flight.

Sidelined long-term at present owing an ACL injury, the Austrian, as part of the free agent agreement which brought him to Madrid back in 2021, is currently earning a hefty €22.56 million-per-year.

This comes in just above Barcelona frontman Robert Lewandowski’s €22.44 million, with Alaba’s Real Madrid teammates Jude Bellingham and Vinícius Jr. in 3rd and 4th, at €20.04 million.

Also featuring high up the list are the likes of İlkay Gündoğan, and Jan Oblak.

Elsewhere across the continent, Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne leads the way when it comes to salary in the Premier League, with Napoli talisman Victor Osimhen’s latest Partenopei contract having seen the Nigerian take the title of Serie A’s best-paid star.
