Lamine Yamal’s rise has been nothing short of extraordinary, and now his agent, Jorge Mendes, has added fuel to the fire by boldly claiming the Barcelona wonderkid deserves to win the Ballon d’Or this year.

The 17-year-old has been a revelation this season under Hansi Flick, and his performance in the recent El Clasico has once again underlined his credentials.

Yamal scored a crucial goal in Barcelona’s 4-3 victory over Real Madrid, an electric display that stood out in a game filled with stars.

While much of the talk has focused on the team’s La Liga surge and controversial refereeing decisions, few can ignore the brilliance of the teenager who continues to deliver on the biggest stages.

It’s a strong statement, but it’s hard to argue with the facts. Yamal has been consistent, decisive, and fearless in a campaign that has seen Barcelona rise from uncertainty to genuine title contenders.

While the UEFA Champions League elimination against Inter was a blow, Yamal’s performance in the second leg at San Siro stood out.

He was one of Barça’s best players that night, constantly threatening the Italian defence and coming close to scoring more than once. Even in defeat, he showed why he belongs among the elite.

With Barcelona now on the verge of winning La Liga, and with Yamal being a central figure in that push, his Ballon d’Or case is far from far-fetched. And there is more, as Yamal has another opportunity to win silverware this season.

Spain will take on France in the UEFA Nations League semi-final on 5 June, and the teenager is expected to play a key role once again. His standout performance against the Netherlands in the previous round helped Spain reach this stage.

If Spain wins the Nations League, his credentials for the highest individual honour will increase.
