Sunderland have agreed a new deal for Spain youth international forward Eliezer Mayenda until June 2030, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Manager Regis Le Bris wants his best players from last term to be rewarded with new deals, and Mayenda is set to commit his future to the club despite attracting interest from across Europe.

It is a massive boost for Sunderland as they look to establish themselves as a mainstay in the English top-flight, and the 20-year-old will be desperate to prove his quality.

He joined the Black Cats from Sochaux on a five-year contract in 2023 and was loaned out to Scottish Premiership club Hibernian in February 2024.

Mayenda ended last term with ten goals and five assists in 42 games to help the Black Cats seal promotion.

He needs to continue in the same vein to help Sunderland retain their Premier League status this season.

His dribbling and impressive passing abilities stood out in the Championship, and he now needs to replicate those skills at the top level.

Sunderland have signed Enzo Le Fee, Habib Diarra, Noah Sadiki, Reinildo Mandava, Chemsdine Talbi, Simon Adingra, Granit Xhaka and Robin Roefs this summer.

They are closing in on a loan deal for Chelsea striker Marc Guiu.

More additions could be on the way as they look to hit the ground running when their campaign kicks off at home against West Ham United on August 16.
