Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris says more signings are a possibility for the club this summer.

The Black Cats have already added 11 new players this summer following their promotion from the Championship last season.

But asked if he anticipates anymore business, Le Bris said: “We’ll see. We have one, two three positions we could reinforce, but it depends on the market.”

Sunderland have, however, confirmed the departure of Pierre Ekwah, who has completed a permanent transfer to AS Saint-Étienne.

The midfielder spent last season on loan at the club, who had an option to sign him permanently.

He made 61 appearances and scored five goals during his time at the Stadium of Light.

Le Bris and Sunderland have also confirmed that summer signing and former Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka will captain the club this season, replacing Dan Neil.

“It’s really natural because of Granit’s level and his experience, leadership and understanding of the game,” Le Bris said on the decision. “It’s really easy after 10 minutes on the pitch to know that he will be our captain.

“For Dan [Neil] it’s an opportunity to grow, he’s young, still only 23 and he has the potential to become a Premier League player. For us as a club, a squad, as a coach and as a manager it’s a chance with this new experience to grow and that is the same for Dan.”
