Legia Warsaw – Warta Poznań

Former Celtic and Southampton keeper Artur Boruc saw red for the first time in his career, as Legia Warsaw dropped to second-bottom in the Ekstraklasa after a 1-0 defeat at home to Warta Poznań.

The stopper – who turns 42 next week – was given his marching orders after a mad moment in the 72nd minute of the match. After catching the ball cleanly, he raised his hands to the face of Warta’s Dawid Szymonowicz, and pushed him to the ground.

Warta were gifted a penalty for the incident, which was missed by Slovakian striker Adam Zrelak.

Szymonowicz had scored earlier in the game, to give Warta a surprise lead. The victory means Warta leapfrog Legia and jump into 14th, but only out of the drop zone on their head-to-head record.

Meanwhile for Legia, the defeat was their 14th of the season, and sixth from ten home games. The reigning champions are now 2 points from safety.

Wisła Płock – Piast Gliwice

In the early Sunday game, Piast Gliwice earned a 2-0 victory at Wisła Płock, climbing into 10th position.

Kamil Wilczek scored his first goal since returning to the club after his spell abroad. He added to Martin Konczkowski’s opener, while Damian Kądzior missed a first-half penalty for the visitors.

Pogoń Szczecin – Zagłębie Lubin

Pogoń Szczecin climbed back into second position, with their 2-1 victory over Zagłębie Lubin.

Slovenian striker Luka Zahović scored his seventh of the season to put the Portowcy ahead, before Zagłębie equalised, just before the hour mark, through Patryk Szysz.

As the game looked to peter out, super-sub Vahan Bichakhchyan scored a thunderbolt, ten minutes from time to lift Pogoń back above Raków Częstochowa. It was the Armenian’s second goal off of the bench since signing from Slovakian side Zilina in the winter break – giving him a record of a goal every seventeen minutes since his arrival in Poland.
