Sudan clinched place in the African Nations Championship CHAN semifinals after eliminating Algeria in nerve wracking quarterfinal clash that ended 1 - 1 and was decided by penalties with the Falcons winning 4 - 2.

Historic meeting revisited

The encounter came 14 year after the sides last met in the same tournament .. a goalless draw in the 2011 edition hosted by Sudan.

Goals & Drama

Sudan struck first in the 48 minute when misplaced pass by Adem Alilet fell to Musa Ali Hussein whose shot deflected off defender Ayoub Ghezala and into the net.

Algeria responded in the 73 minute through substitute Sofiane Bayazid who outmuscled Sudanese goalkeeper Mohamed Abooja to score his 3rd goal of the tournament having already netted against Uganda & Guinea.

With the game still tied after extra time, the shootout proved decisive. Sudan converted all 4 spot kicks while Algeria faltered as Mehdi Merghem and Zakaria Draoui missed their attempts.
