Multi-national sandwich chain Subway has been announced as the new title sponsor for the Women’s League Cup. The deal is said to be worth more than £1 million and will see the competition rebranded as the Subway Women’s League Cup from the knockout round in January.
Formerly known as the Continental Cup, the tournament has been without a sponsor since the close of the 2023/24 campaign. Subway’s multi-year offer additionally included a guaranteed marketing spend. The firm has also partnered with GB Basketball, Breaking GB, and Skateboard GB to promote physical activity across the UK.
The deal was sealed by Women’s Professional Leagues Limited (WPLL), which took over operation of the Women’s Super League and Championship in the summer. The flurry of record-breaking deals and big name brands in the women’s game are indicative of its growth.
Following the sponsorship news, WPLL CEO Nikki Doucet said: “We are thrilled that Subway has come on board as Title Partner for the Women’s League Cup as we continue on our journey to build the most distinctive, competitive and entertaining women’s football club cup competition in the world.”
The announcement comes two months following the announcement the WPLL had agreed a landmark five-year broadcast deal with BBC and Sky Sports. Then, Doucet said: “The growth of the game is undeniable, and this deal is another step in the right direction and positive news for the fans, the players and the clubs.”
The match-ups for the quarter-finals are as follows:
The quarter-finals will be played across January 22nd and 23rd, followed by the semi-finals on February 5th and 6th. The final is due to take place on March 15th at Pride Park Stadium.
