Stoke facing off against Bournemouth could be one of the tastiest clashes in the Championship from the midweek round of games.

The Cherries could not be doing any better so far this year, having secured their spot at the top of the table and having not lost a single game along the way. As for the Potters, they too have been sharp and can consider themselves genuine promotion contenders. Right now, the home side sit in fifth place in the table but a huge win over Scott Parker’s side could take them up to third.

Stoke coming into the tie having lost in their previous game and they’ll be determined to right those wrongs in what will be a tricky fixture against a team doing incredibly well in the second tier. Bournemouth come into the game having sealed another emphatic win, this time over Bristol City. If they can see off the challenge of Michael O’Neill’s team in midweek, then that would cement them even more as title favourites.

Ahead of the game then, here is all you need to know.

Stoke will be without Alfie Doughty, who didn’t feature at the weekend either. The player has played seven games for the team in the Championship this year but won’t play a part in midweek either due to illness, as reported by the Stoke Sentinel.

It seems as though illness has wiped out a few members of the squad too, as Leo Ostigard may also be sidelined through it.

Apart from those two, there is no real change in terms of imminent returns or players ruled out from the weekend. It means that O’Neill should have a strong side heading into the fixture, which will definitely come in handy.

Bournemouth may also be pretty full strength. Nothing appears to have changed since the weekend, with the only real addition back into the matchday squad being Ben Pearson. The midfielder missed the Cherries game against Bristol City through suspension but will return now after serving his ban. Adam Smith also missed out at the weekend with a knock but there is perhaps an outside chance he may return.
