Stoke City faced a crucial FA Cup challenge on February 8, taking on Cardiff City in the fourth round of the competition. Both teams were struggling in the EFL Championship, but had pulled off impressive victories in the previous round—Stoke City eliminated Sunderland, while Cardiff City knocked out Sheffield United.

Things got even worse for Stoke when Yousef Salech doubled the lead in the 19th minute, putting the visitors ahead 2-0. Stoke seemed completely overwhelmed, struggling to get back into the game.

However, just before halftime, Lewis Koumas provided a lifeline for Stoke City. His brilliant goal in the 42nd minute gave the hosts some hope, reducing the deficit to 2-1 going into the break.

A Spirited Comeback Falls Short

The momentum continued in the second half, as Lewis Koumas struck again in the 50th minute, leveling the match at 2-2. Stoke City's confidence grew, and in the 57th minute, Lewis Baker converted a penalty to complete an incredible comeback, giving Stoke City a 3-2 lead.

But just when it seemed like the home side had taken control, Rubin Colwill scored his second goal of the night in the 68th minute, making it 3-3 and forcing the match into a penalty shootout.

Heartbreak in the Penalty Shootout

The dramatic game ended with Cardiff City winning 4-2 on penalties. Stoke City struggled from the spot, missing two crucial penalties. Tatsuki Seko failed to convert his attempt, while Michael Rose saw his shot brilliantly saved by Cardiff goalkeeper Ethan Horvath.
