Stockport County will be looking to continue their excellent form as they try to go one step further than last season.

The Hatters took to life in League Two very well last season, but just missed out on promotion to League One after being beaten by Carlisle United in the League Two play-off final.

Stockport were one of the early season favourites for this season, and so far, they have lived up to the hype, leading the table by two points and six clear of fourth-place Barrow.

County are considered to be one of the wealthiest sides at this level, and that allowed them to be active during the summer transfer window. They brought 15 players to the club, with Aston Villa winger Louie Barry being one of them.

Louie Barry could return to Aston Villa

Louie Barry spent last season on loan at Salford City and impressed enormously as the Ammies secured a play-off spot.

So, with them remaining in League Two, Stockport decided to get a deal over the line for Barry, which saw him join the club for the season on loan from Villa.

The winger made an excellent start, scoring seven goals in his opening 10 league games for the club.

He added two more goals to that tally in the 3-2 win over Grimsby Town, and he looked on course to keep on adding and adding. However, Barry suffered an injury blow in the game against Crewe Alexandra.

The winger tore his hamstring in a game back in October, and it was revealed that he could face months on the sidelines.

Barry has yet to return for Stockport, and there could be the possibility that Villa will look to recall the player as he tries to get back to full fitness.

Stockport County should turn to Dane Scarlett if Louie Barry leaves

The Hatters will hope that Barry can stay at the club beyond January and return to full fitness as soon as possible.

However, that decision is out of their hands, so should he be recalled this month, Tottenham Hotspur forward Dane Scarlett could be the ideal replacement.

Scarlett spent the first half of this season on loan at Ipswich Town, but it was a period that was quite frustrating for the 19-year-old.

The Spurs man played 12 times for the Tractor Boys in the Championship, but he failed to start any of them, with him being limited to substitute appearances.

The attacker has shined in Tottenham’s academy and did well during his loan spell at Portsmouth last season.

Scarlett scored four goals and recorded two assists in 34 League One appearances. Last season, he averaged 0.1 goals per game, with 1.4 shots per game, giving him a shot frequency of 432 minutes. Scarlett had a goal conversion rate of 8%, with all of the goals coming inside the box, as per SofaScore.com.

The 19-year-old created three big chances during his time with Pompey, with him also collecting 0.3 key passes. Scarlett had a pass accuracy of 62% per game, while his successful dribbles were 27%, being fouled 1.1 times, as per SofaScore.com.

Clearly, Scarlett is probably not at the level that Barry was performing at before his injury, but if Stockport are keen to replace him, then Scarlett may be the best available option out there.

They are both very similar players, and with Scarlett likely keen to prove Ipswich they were wrong about him, he could join Stockport eager to show what he is about, and he could flourish under a manager like Dabe Challinor.
