KV Mechelen’s Steven Defour believes that Genk’s Wouter Vrancken should be the man to succeed Roberto Martinez as manager of the Red Devils. Vrancken has guided Genk to top spot in the Belgian Pro League, losing just one game in the process.

Voetbalkrant“It’s nice of Steven to say that. Would I do it if they called me? No, I don’t think so, I want to continue the day-to-day work on the field and I am in the right place at Genk“.

The Belgian FA are currently in the process of appointing a new head coach, after Roberto Martinez stepped down following the sides exit from the Qatar World Cup. Martinez was appointed in 2016, and guided the side to a third place finish in the 2018 World Cup. In both the tournaments that Belgium competed in under Martinez prior to the 2022 World Cup the side were knocked out by the eventual winners, France in 2018 and Italy at the European Championship.
