The Ligue 1 season is over, however, Steve Mounié’s (29) contract situation remains unresolved. The Beninese forward’s contract expires this summer and whilst a renewal remains on the table, Stade Brestois are yet to receive an answer.

Whilst Mounié didn’t have a prolific season, he was still instrumental in guiding Brest towards a historic qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League. The former Huddersfield town forward played 35 times for Les Ty Zéfs last season, scoring seven goals and registering three assists.

However, he could yet leave the club. Mounié received a contract extension offer at Brest in February, however, he has yet to agree terms. The Breton club have only offered a two-year contract, however, the Beninese international is looking for a more long-term deal. With manager Eric Roy stating that he wishes to retain the striker, a counter-proposal has been sent by Mounié’s representatives in recent days.

He has rejected an offer from Qatar, according to L’Équipe, whilst midtable teams in the Bundesliga and Serie A have also shown interest in the soon-to-be free agent.
