The Scottish Football Association have confirmed that Steve Clarke has taken over as the new manager of the national side.

Following Alex McLeish’s sacking in April, Scotland had been seeking to appoint a new coach ahead of the summer’s Euro 2020 qualifiers.

They have now got their man in Clarke, who has put pen to paper on a three-year deal.

The 55-year-old has left his role at Kilmarnock to assume the reins, having guided the Ayrshire outfit to a third place finish and European football next season.

“It is an honour to be appointed Scotland head coach and I will undertake those responsibilities with pride and commitment,” Clarke stated.

“I firmly believe we have a talented group of players who can achieve success on the international stage.

“I look forward to working with them and helping them to fulfil those ambitions.”

His success in leading Killie to a highest league finish since 1966 was recognised by both the PFA and Football Writers’ Association, who named him manager of the year.
