Manchester City will clash heads with Tottenham Hotspur at the Wembley Stadium on Sunday evening hoping to win their first trophy of the season. The Citizens will be heading into the contest on the back of an impressive 2-1 win against Aston Villa in the Premier League, whereas the Lilywhites recorded a similar 2-1 victory over Southampton.

Pep Guardiola will probably opt for the 4-3-3 formation with a couple of tweaks from the last game. Zack Steffen might get the nod over Ederson Moraes, whereas Joao Cancelo looks likely to make his way back into the starting eleven.

Defence

Zack Steffen will replace Ederson Moraes in between the sticks for the upcoming encounter. The American shot-stopper will hope to put up a strong performance and secure a clean sheet on Sunday.

Aymeric Laporte might replace John Stones to form the centre-half partnership with Ruben Dias at the heart of City’s backline.

Oleksandr Zinchenko will continue to feature at the left-back position, whereas Joao Cancelo will replace Kyle Walker on the other flank as the right-back. The full-backs will be expected to stay compact and keep their shape defensively.

Midfield

Rodri will continue to fulfil the holding midfield position and could be assigned more of a defensive role to shield the away side’s back-four.

Ilkay Gundogan will slot into the central midfield role, whereas Bernardo Silva is expected to start in the attacking midfield position.

However, Kevin De Bruyne is expected to miss the upcoming clash due to an ankle injury.

“It was less than we expected, and yesterday he felt much better.” – Pep Guardiola revealed in his post-match press conference.

“Today, I don’t know because I didn’t speak with him, but we will see tomorrow’s training.”

“I think if it’s not really for this final, hopefully, maybe he will be ready for the semi-finals of the Champions League.”

Attack

Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez will take up the wide positions, playing on the left and right-wing respectively.

Gabriel Jesus will lead the line for his side against Tottenham Hotspur. The Brazilian international will be hoping to get his name on the scoresheet when he faces off against the Spurs defence that has kept just one clean sheet in their last five league matches.

Ferran Torres might be brought on in the second forty-five minutes of the contest if needed.
