Paris Saint-Germain has lost yet another academy play, who will be leaving on a free transfer in search of greener pastures and more playing time. Xavi Simons, whose deal expires on Thursday, has agreed to join Dutch club PSV Eindhoven.

Transfer window specialist Fabrizio Romano reports talks between the capital club and Simons of a new contract were almost agreed with the Ligue 1 champions with a loan move, then ‘it collapsed.’

Romano adds that the midfielder’s deal with PSV will be until 2027 but doesn’t mention the reason for the agreement between the two sides to collapse, leading to this surprising move.

Simons went on Twitter to thank PSG for the last three years of his career as he begins this next chapter, where he hopes to grow and be a key factor as he looks to maybe make the Netherlands national team for the FIFA World Cup later this year.

“After three wonderful years at the club, it’s time to say goodbye. I am very grateful to the coaches, the staff, my teammates, and all the staff. PSG will always be in my heart. For the fans: from the bottom of my heart, Thank you. I love you!!” Simons wrote.

The midfielder becomes the latest young player to leave, and it could either be a success like Christopher Nkunku or Moussa Diaby have experienced or a challenging venture like Adil Aouchiche has had at AS Saint-Étienne and Jean-Kévin Augustin.
