Spurs: Pedro Porro's debut vs Leicester blasted by Tim Sherwood in furious rant

Pedro Porro arrived at Spurs in January with high expectations but former Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood was far from impressed with the Spaniard's debut against Leicester.

Antonio Conte made no secret of his desire to sign the wing-back during the transfer window, and he got his reward on deadline day as the highly-rated 23-year-old signed on loan from Sporting Lisbon with an obligation to buy for a fee of £44 million.

Porro didn't feature in Spurs' win against Man City last week but was named in the starting XI against the Foxes in place of Emerson Royal.

But Conte's side succumbed to a 4-1 defeat against Brendon Rodgers' team and Porro was subject to a fair share of the blame.

Sherwood's rant about Porro

Speaking on Soccer Saturday, Sherwood didn't hold back in his assessment of the young defender.

"I don't want to keep picking on the kid but he needs to be relieved of his duties at the moment.

"I've given him the benefit of the doubt because it's his debut but Pedro Porro is so bad it's unbelievable. His positioning is absolutely disgusting. Barnes and Maddison are destroying him down the left-hand side.

He added: "Daniel Levy said this week that they'd [Spurs] spent a lot of money. Yes they have, but their recruitment has been very, very poor. This is the latest addition.

"Don't make any conclusions at the moment but what I'm looking at is not a player who wants to defend. Antonio Conte has complained about the defending and this player at the moment is struggling to defend."

Jeff Stelling then reminded viewers of Porro's price tag, to which Sherwood stressed: "Absolutely. As Daniel said, he spent the money but it's what they're buying. He looks like a decent player going forward but if you want someone to defend..."

Stelling then joked: "I'm pleased you don't want to be too harsh on Porro anyway."

At the end of the match, Sherwood remarked that Porro's first introduction to the Premier League was: "One of the worst debuts I have ever seen."

Porro's highlights vs Leicester

Following his miserable debut, Porro's highlights have now circulated on YouTube and it seems Sherwood may have been somewhat harsh with his analysis.

It's evident that the Spanish star is a talented player going forwards, though his defensive capabilities can be questioned.

Given that Spurs conceded four goals, however, it's unfair to attribute all the blame to Porro, who deserves at least a few matches to get up to speed with the league.

Check out his highlights for yourselves below:

What's happening with Spurs?

Spurs produced one of their finest performances of the season against Man City, meaning confidence was high heading into the Leicester game.

Yet, Tottenham were a shadow of the team that defeated Pep Guardiola's side the week prior and Leicester may even consider themselves unlucky not to have scored more.

The result means that Spurs remain fifth in the Premier League – two points behind Newcastle, having played a game more.

Will they be able to catch the Magpies? That all depends on which Tottenham team turns up from now until the end of the season.
