Wayne Rooney has joked Harry Kane is being “held as a prisoner” at Tottenham Hotspur amidst interest from Bayern Munich and Manchester United.

Bayern have reportedly made two bids to sign Kane ahead of the 2023/24 season, though Tottenham owner Daniel Levy is reluctant to sell his star man.

The England captain is out of contract next summer and is very reluctant to sign a new deal in north London.

His reluctance comes down to the fact he is yet to win a single trophy with his boyhood club despite several incredible campaigns from an individual standpoint.

You get the impression Levy will sell for the right price, especially to Bayern.

A move to Germany obviously means Spurs will not lose Kane to a Premier League rival and also ensures they receive a fee for someone who can walk for nothing in a year.

Kane joining Manchester United on a free transfer after Levy rejected £80million from Bayern would…not go down very well, it has to be said.

One man who hopes this does happen is Red Devils legend Wayne Rooney, who thinks the 29-year-old is the “ideal player” for Erik ten Hag’s side.

Speaking to The Athletic, the D.C. United boss joked that Kane is being “held as a prisoner” by Spurs.

“I thought it was time to go last season and he stayed,” Rooney said.

“Harry’s probably feeling that and knows there are trophies out there for him to win. He has done everything he can for that to try and be at Tottenham.

“Now probably is right for him to move on and it looks like he’s ready for that as well, but we know Tottenham can be quite difficult at times.”

By “difficult”, Rooney obviously means Levy is a very tough negotiator.

A recent report from German newspaper Bild said Levy is ‘angry’ with Bayern’s honorary president Uli Hoeness after he said the Bundesliga champions are confident they will sign Kane this summer.

“I’m not letting him go for £70m, £80m or £100m!” Levy has apparently told friends.
