Manchester United target Jonathan Tah has officially joined Bayern Munich on a free transfer.

The Red Devils hold a long-standing interest in the 29-year-old centre-back having been linked with a move last summer.

Instead, United signed Leny Yoro (LOSC Lille) and Matthijs de Ligt (Bayern Munich) and a deal never transpired for the Bayer Leverkusen star.

Tah’s contract situation at the BayArena had put a number of clubs across Europe on red-alert this summer as his current deal expired at the end of the season.

This meant a high-level defender with a wealth of experience at club and international level would be available on the market for a free transfer.

And it’s this bargain deal which brought United back into the fold for Tah with a report relayed by The Peoples Person revealing the Reds were rivalling Bayern Munich and Real Madrid in the race for his signature.

Premier League rivals Liverpool and Newcastle United were all linked with moves for the German defender.

However, as is often the case in the Bundesliga, when Bayern come knocking, their target gladly answers the door.

Last week, Fabrizio Romano revealed Tah had agreed to join the Bavarian side with Bayern pushing for him to be available at the Club World Cup.

Today, it has been confirmed Tah has completed the switch to the Allianz Arena on a free transfer with a four-year contract.

Tweet: “Official, confirmed. Jonathan Tah joins FC Bayern on four year contract until June 2029. Free transfer from Leverkusen, confirmed.”

It officially brings an end to any faint optimism United may have have held in signing the talented defender.
