Spanish international and former Real Sociedad star Mikel Merino has this week been dealt a blow on the fitness front.
This comes amid confirmation that the midfielder is set for an incoming spell on the sidelines.
Merino is for his part of course fresh off sealing a move to the Premier League, from his home country of Spain.
After following up a stellar individual campaign on the books of Real Sociedad by playing his part in La Roja’s triumph at Euro 2024, the ex-Newcastle United man was rewarded by way of a move to Arsenal.
As alluded to above, however, the Gunners faithful will be forced to wait for a chance to see Merino in action in the club’s colours for the very first time.
This comes after it was revealed that the 28-year-old has suffered an injury setback.
Speaking in a press conference ahead of his side’s Premier League meeting with Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday, Mikel Arteta announced that Merino has suffered what is thought to be a fractured shoulder:
“He has a shoulder injury and it looks like he will be out for a few weeks. He landed on the floor and Gabi landed on top of him. It’s a fracture probably.”
