Jürgen Klinsmann has been sacked as head coach of the South Korea national team.

Klinsmann was in charge of South Korea for just over a year but has been relieved of his duties following their disappointing Asian Cup performance.

The former Germany international had a contract that ran until the end of 2026 World Cup, but following their defeat in the semi-finals to Jordan, Klinsmann has been shown the door.

“We’ve reached a consensus that Klinsmann cannot exercise his leadership as national team head coach for various reasons and that a change of leadership is necessary,” said Hwangbo Kwan the head of the South Korea FA.

As well as a disastrous Asian Cup, there have also been reports of in-fighting between top players inside the South Korea camp, with Heung-min Son believed to have fallen out with some team mates over a table tennis tournament.
