Bayern Munich Honorary President Uli Hoeneß remains fairly relaxed when it comes to the matter of VfB Stuttgart striker Nick Woltemade’s stalled transfer. The 73-year-old – who for years ensured that the Bayern procured nearly every player they ever targeted from another Bundesliga club – sounded very much like himself from his active days as an administrator.

Hoeneß also spoke on some of Bayern’s failed summer transfers in a recent interview with BRsport24. True to form, the German footballing magnate revealed that he told Thomas Müller to quit playing entirely rather than continue his career with LA Galaxy next season. When it came time to discuss the quest for new attackers, Hoeneß emphasized the talent the FCB squad already had.

We still have time until the end of August [when the transfer window closes this year,” Hoeneß said. “And we have decided internally to do sensible things. The left [attacking flank] still needs work, but we also have two players in Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry [that can fill the position]. Coman, in particular, impressed me incredibly for an hour against Boca Juniors [in the second Club World Cup group stage fixture].

When you have as many games as we do, you have to grab replacements if something happens,” Honeneß “But not at any price. There’s no sense in paying €60m, €70m or €80m for backups.

That led Hoeneß to Woltemade. Having already spoken about the insane fees involved in this particular game of transfer poker, Hoeneß just reiterated that a club such as Bayern has all the time in the world to get what they want.

I think he’s [Woltemade] a very, very good player who would fit in well with us,” Hoeneß said.  “If not, then [we’ll get him] next year.”
