It's a busy time for the Magpies, who are on the lookout for a new manager after dispensing of the services of Stuart Maynard after their League Two play-off semi-final defeat at the hands of AFC Wimbledon last month.

Whilst that process continues though, transfer business remains ongoing with the window opening this past weekend, and County are set to bolster their attacking unit.

Notts County closing in on Matthew Dennis deal - Carlisle United striker booked in for medical

Last week, FLW exclusively revealed that Carlisle attacker Dennis was on the radar of multiple clubs as his Cumbrians contract comes to an end, with Notts County, Fleetwood Town, Walsall and newly-promoted Port Vale keen on the 23-year-old.

However, there is already seemingly a winner in the race, with FLW being told that it is Notts County that are closing in on confirming the capture of Dennis, and a medical is booked in for the forward before he can sign on the dotted line.

It means that Dennis will depart Carlisle when his contract ends on June 30, having only signed for United back in February after his MK Dons contract was terminated on deadline day of the mid-season transfer window, allowing him to seek a new club for the remainder of the campaign.

Whilst at Brunton Park, Dennis scored six times in his 16 League Two appearances, but his efforts in-front of goal were not enough to help keep Mark Hughes' side in the division as they were relegated into the National League, where they return for the first time in 20 years.

What Matthew Dennis arriving at Notts County could mean for Alassana Jatta's future at Meadow Lane

Dennis, when he signs on the dotted line at Notts County, will join an attacking unit at Meadow Lane that already features January addition Moi Traore, as well as prolific Gambian Alassana Jatta.

Jatta struck 19 times in League Two last season, but his 2024-25 campaign ended on a sour note with a late red card against AFC Wimbledon in the first leg of the fourth tier play-off semi-finals.

FLW exclusively revealed last week that Bolton Wanderers were eyeing up a summer swoop for the 26-year-old poacher, and that could see a vacancy open up for Dennis to fill.
