Middlesbrough had were planning to assess a loan move for Manchester United midfielder Zidane Iqbal but Christian Eriksen’s injury is likely to dent their hopes, sources have exclusively informed Football League World.
English clubs have until 11pm this evening to get their transfer business done and Michael Carrick may want to add one or two more players to his squad to aid Boro’s promotion push.
Sources have exclusively informed FLW that the Championship club had hoped they may be able to look at a potential loan deal for Iqbal before the window closes.
However, FLW understands that the news that Eriksen is set to be sidelined until late April or even May due to injury is likely to dent their hopes of landing the young United midfielder.
Boro have already added Dan Barlaser to their options in the middle of the park this month but the 19-year-old is a player of interest and Carrick’s Old Trafford links would make the Riverside an obvious destination should the Premier League club sanction a loan move.
Iqbal is clearly highly rated by the Red Devils – having made his debut in the Champions League last season, been handed a new long-term deal in the summer, and made the bench on multiple occasions in 2022/23.
