Man Utd’s Interest in Xavi Simons Sparks Excitement: What We Know So Far

Manchester United’s summer plans are gathering pace, with new manager Ruben Amorim reportedly keeping a close eye on RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons. As revealed by TeamTalk, there is genuine admiration from Old Trafford for the talented Dutch midfielder, though claims of a formal £116m offer have been labelled “wide of the mark.”

With Simons delivering an impressive return of 20 goals and 21 assists in 72 games for Leipzig, it’s no wonder he’s drawing serious attention across Europe. His versatility — being able to operate on either wing or centrally — makes him a particularly appealing option as United seek to bolster their attack.

United’s Transfer Priorities Shift Towards Flexibility

According to TeamTalk, “Man Utd’s priority this summer is to sign a new striker and add a number ten.” Currently, the club’s focus is heavily geared towards Matheus Cunha and Liam Delap, aiming to secure both signatures early despite a tight PSR (Profit and Sustainability Rules) situation.

However, Simons presents an interesting alternative if these moves fail to materialise. His ability to play across multiple attacking positions could solve more than one problem for Amorim, offering tactical flexibility that United have often lacked in recent seasons.

Leipzig’s Stance Could Prove a Major Hurdle

One stumbling block could be the price tag. TeamTalk notes that while Simons cost Leipzig a fixed €50m (£42.5m) from Paris Saint-Germain, “a bid of €80m (£68m) may be required to sign Simons” this summer.

That fee reflects not only Simons’ current form but also his immense potential. Leipzig know they hold a valuable asset and will not part ways cheaply, especially with several Premier League giants monitoring the situation.

Competition for Simons: United Face Big Rivals

Interest in Simons isn’t confined to Old Trafford. Manchester City are also reportedly attentive to the Dutchman’s situation, although their main focus remains elsewhere. As reported, “they are more likely to move for Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz, who is the ‘dream’ target,” or Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White.

Liverpool and Chelsea, meanwhile, seem less of a threat. Liverpool’s priorities lie elsewhere, with Darwin Nunez’s future uncertain and defensive reinforcements being targeted. Chelsea have a crowded midfield and seem content with their current crop, especially with Cole Palmer thriving and Estevao Willian on the way.

Amorim’s Influence Could Be Key

If United are to make a serious play for Simons, Amorim’s influence could be pivotal. Known for developing young, attacking talent during his time at Sporting CP, Amorim could offer Simons the kind of developmental environment and starring role that would be hard to refuse.

Furthermore, the project at Manchester United — rebuilding a genuine title-challenging side under new leadership — could be the ideal platform for Simons to take the next big step in his already impressive career.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

From the perspective of a passionate Manchester United supporter, the idea of Xavi Simons arriving at Old Trafford is seriously mouth-watering! This is exactly the kind of statement signing we need to show that United are back at the top table, hunting for Europe’s brightest talents.

Simons has absolutely everything we’re crying out for: pace, creativity, versatility and, most importantly, end product. Twenty goals and twenty-one assists at his age in a top European league? That’s no fluke! Amorim would know exactly how to unlock even more from him, perhaps moulding him into a world-class playmaker for years to come.

Sure, £68m is no small sum, but we’re talking about investing in the future of our attack. Just imagine a front four of Garnacho, Hojlund, Simons and Fernandes — it’s the stuff of dreams for any Red Devil. United have messed about too much in recent transfer windows, but this feels like a proper smart move if it happens.

Of course, we shouldn’t get carried away just yet with Amorim focused on Cunha and Delap. But if there’s a chance to swoop for Simons instead, it’s a no-brainer. Old Trafford deserves to see special players again, and this lad could light it up.

In short: Simons to United? YES, PLEASE.
