Barcelona B has produced massive amounts of talent over the years, with Riqui Puig, Ansu Fati and Ilaix Moriba having broken into the first team. Amongst the names of the new batch set to be promoted, including Álex Collado and Alejandro Baldé, is Nico Gonzaléz.

As reported by OnzeE3, the midfielder will renew his contract for 3 years with Barcelona with a guarantee to be included in the first team dynamics starting next season.

A tactically intelligent ball-playing midfielder, Gonzaléz formed a formidable part of Pimienta’s midfield this season through a profile incredibly similar to compatriot Sergio Busquets, whom La Blaugrana have been looking for a replacement for several seasons, with an offer for Rennais’ Eduardo Camavinga reportedly on the cards.

Either way, leadership at the club certainly view Gonzaléz as a potential replacement, whose new contract may contain a massive €500m buyout clause to ward off competitors. The 19-year-old is expected to join the senior setup for preseason and will have a chance to impress Ronald Koeman (if he is to continue), similar to how numerous other young prospects have.

The midfielder’s new contract will see him at the club till 2024 with significant opportunities to prove his worth at the Catalan club, which, according to the midfielder’s father and former La Liga legend Fran, has been his dream club:

“For many years, Nico has pursued his dream to play for Barça. He rejected very tempting offers.”

It would appear that this has come to fruition with his new contract and adds an interesting dynamic as to whether the signing of Camavinga from Rennais will be completed, who has played in a similar box-to-box role as Frenkie de Jong this season for the French outfit.
