Blackburn Rovers are interested in signing Wigan Athletic's Thelo Aasgaard in the January window, FLW can reveal.
Blackburn Rovers remain keen on Wigan Athletic’s Thelo Aasgaard as John Eustace looks to strengthen his squad in the January window, Football League World can reveal.
The 22-year-old attacking midfielder has come through the ranks with the Latics, and he has gone on to make over 100 appearances for the club.
During that time, Aasgaard has shown why he is so highly regarded, with the Norway U21 international emerging as a key figure during what has been a difficult period for Wigan.
It had been said that Aasgaard could leave Wigan in the summer, with Blackburn admirers of the player, whilst there was also talk that Stoke could make a move - Nottingham Forest are also in the mix to sign the talented Latics ace.
However, Wigan managed to retain the academy graduate, and he has gone on to score five goals in 18 appearances for Shaun Maloney’s side.
Yet, there are fresh doubts about his future, as FLW has been told that Aasgaard remains on Rovers’ radar ahead of the January window, and there is confidence at Ewood Park that they could tempt the player to join, given their position in the league.
This would be a good move for Blackburn, as Aasgaard is someone who has real talent, and he has the potential to get even better in the years to come.
Of course, he is by no means the finished article, and he has struggled for consistency for Wigan at times, but it’s clear that he has ability, and he would bring something different to Eustace's team.
Aasgaard has the ability to make things happen in the final third, and with Rovers the lowest scorers in the top six, it makes sense that they’re trying to add creativity to the side.
As well as that, he also fits the model for their recruitment, as whilst he has experience in the Football League over the past few years, he is still relatively young, which means his value could increase significantly too.
Eustace has made it clear that he wants to add to the group in the New Year, so he will no doubt be pushing to get this over the line if it is a possibility, and it’s right that the club try to capitalise on their good campaign so far.
