Pumas took the lead just before half-time after a series of wild events that eventually led to Juan Ignacio Dinenno converting from the spot.

Pumas were awarded a penalty in rather controversial fashion even though VAR came to intervene. Though Dinenno was hacked down by a pair of Sounders players, it appeared that Xavier Arreaga properly tackled the ball before the coming together.

After the penalty was awarded, Stefan Frei saves the initial penalty attempt only for VAR to be used a second time in succession to determine that Frei left his line early.

Finally, five minutes after the original incident, Dinenno would convert his penalty to put Pumas in the lead.

After the intermission, Dinenno would waste no time doubling his side’s lead, beautifully thumping home a header past Frei.

However, Seattle would stay alive in the tie after a Sebastian Saucedo handball allowed Nico Lodeiro to convert from 12 yards to cut the deficit in half.

The match would end in dramatic fashion as the Sounders were awarded a penalty at the death after another VAR check, giving Lodeiro the opportunity to bag his second penalty of the night in the 99th minute.

The two teams will go back at it in Seattle next Wednesday, May 4th.
