Sørensen wants to see an improvement from Everton against Manchester United

Everton manager Brian Sørensen says that he wants his side to show signs of improvement when they travel to the Leigh Sports Village to face Manchester United in the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup on Wednesday evening.

The Blue Girls have already faced The Red Devils this season. Everton went down 3-0 to Marc Skinner’s side at Walton Hall Park back in October.

The performance against Manchester United was arguably Everton’s worst against a ‘top four’ club so far this season and Sørensen wants to see some growth when the two clubs meet again on Wednesday.

“They’re a really good team, we saw that at the weekend, they’ve been doing great,” Sørensen said. “It was one of the games this season where we weren’t happy with our performance and we will be looking to do better against them tomorrow.

“Our energy was off for that game and I don’t think we were sharp enough. We made big mistakes for two of the goals so that’s something that we need to look at and try to improve.”

Everton are in second place in their group with five points while Manchester United have to win to have any chance of reaching the quarter-finals after only managing to draw their two group games so far. Sørensen said that Everton will try to win the game, although protecting a draw may become important in the latter stages should The Blue Girls find themselves in that position.

He said “For United, in the position that they are in, it is going to be tough, us and Villa are in a better position of course.

“We will go out there to win the game but if we get into the last 10 minutes and we have a useful result, we will look at that. Otherwise, we will try to set up the best we can to win the game and then see where it takes us.”

Everton’s FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup fixture against Manchester United kicks-off at 7pm on Wednesday evening.
