Manchester United U18s rounded out their regular season on Saturday morning hosting Everton.

With the Premier League North title already secured, the match served as a test to get some fitness ahead of the national final as well as introduce some of the u16s who will be stepping up to this level next season.

United looked to pounce early off of an Everton mistake when Ruben Curley won possession high up the pitch and played the ball to Gabriele Biancheri who laid off for Malachi Sharpe to curl towards the far corner but the winger’s effort was too central allowing the keeper to tip wide.

Jaydan Kamason then looked to show off his individual brilliance with a serpentining run that saw him skip past one defender before shrugging off another but ultimately the defender’s attempt on goal with his weaker foot went wide of the left post.

It was largely one way traffic with United producing the majority of the chances but it took until the 38th minute for the reds to make the breakthrough.

Zach Baumann’s shot was initially blocked into the path of Kamason who crossed back into the danger area for Biancheri to turn home from close range.

It wasn’t all smooth sailing for United though as just before the break, James Nolan’s defensive header could only find the foot of an Everton player who quickly played it to Rocco Lambert to strike hard and low from a wide angle to catch Tom Myles out at the front post.

But it barely took a minute for United to restore their lead with almost a carbon copy finish from Biancheri of his first. Ruben Curley delivered a low cross from the left for the Welsh striker to run across the face of the goal and steer in at the front post.

Into the second half, Jack Fletcher came close with a long range effort that was tipped around for a corner.

The resulting corner was headed over by Finley McAllister but a lack of concentration from Everton on their goal kick saw the ball turned over to Sharpe inside the box to finish and secure a 3-1 win for United.

An impressive season, Adam Lawrence’s side finish the league top of the table with 20 wins, two draws, and only two losses.

After the match Lawrence said, “It has been a fantastic season in terms of always looking at the individuals and the group at the start of the season and it has been lovely to see how they have progressed as the season has gone on.

“It is a fantastic academy and is a fantastic place for any young player to be developing themselves on and off the pitch. As long as they’re coming in with the right attitude everyday and they’re trying to improve and get better, that is all we can really ask for.”

Lawrence and the team now look forward to taking on Chelsea to solidify themselves as the national champions.
