Those behind the scenes at La Liga giants Barcelona are growing increasingly concerned that a deal for Athletic Club star Nico Williams will not be forthcoming this summer.

That’s according to Marca, who have provided a fresh insight into the situation.

The transfer saga between Barca and Nico has of course been ongoing for over a year now.

After the Blaugrana failed to tie up a deal for the 22-year-old last summer, a renewed effort has been kicked into gear this time round.

At one point, it appeared as though Deco and co. were finally closing on the signing, after Nico and his entourage agreed to the terms of a contract through the summer of 2031.

Recent days, however, have seen the transfer thrown back up in the air.

As much comes as the player seeks exit avenues in the case of his registration with La Liga not coming to fruition for the beginning of next season.

With Barcelona unwilling to provide as much, the move is considered as somewhat stalled at present.

And owing to as much, some at the Camp Nou are already of the opinion that Nico’s signing may simply remain out of reach this summer.

As per a report from Marca:

‘Today, Barca are no longer as optimistic as they were a few days ago about closing the Athletic Club forward’s deal,’ with several board members already adamant that Nico will simply not arrive.
