Solskjaer odds slashed to become next Ireland manager | OneFootball

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been installed as the bookmakers’ favourite to become the next manager of the Republic of Ireland.

Solskjaer has been out of work since being sacked at Manchester United in November 2021, with the Norwegian having considered a number of offers to return to the dugout.

The 51-year-old previously had two stints at Molde in his homeland and a short spell at Cardiff City, before spending three years at Old Trafford.

Having represented the Red Devils 366 times during his playing career, scoring 126 goals, he returned to the club on an initial caretaker basis to replace Jose Mourinho before taking the role permanently.

Solskjaer has now emerged as the shock favourite to be named Ireland boss after several bookmakers slashed his odds on Friday. The FAI intend to announce Stephen Kenny’s successor next week, ahead of June’s internationals with Hungary and Portugal.

Solskjaer’s former Manchester United teammate, John O’Shea, is currently in interim charge of The Boys in Green and had been considered a leading candidate for the position.

However, the 42-year-old has now drifted to third-favourite, behind Solskjaer and another ex-Manchester United man, Steve Bruce.
