Cardiff City finally named Mark Hudson’s permanent successor earlier this weekend, with former Nottingham Forest boss Sabri Lamouchi taking charge at the Cardiff City Stadium.
As part of the announcement, though, the club confirmed that a familiar face would be returning as assistant – Sol Bamba.
Bamba is a popular figure in the Welsh capital, having spent five years with the club between 2016 and 2021.
During that period, the now 38-year-old made a total of 118 club appearances and can include a Championship promotion as one of his achievements at the club whilst there.
Active on social media following the announcement of his return, the former Bluebirds defender issued a message to the club’s supporters earlier this weekend.
Indeed, on Instagram, Bamba posted an image of him in action for the Bluebirds and wrote: “Back in the Blue Nest 💙.”
“Delighted to be back in a club that means so much to me (in a different costume this time 👔👀).
“Difficult situation but all together we will turn this round ✊🏾💙.”

Lamouchi and Bamba take over with the Bluebirds currently sitting 21st in the Championship at present.
It’s great to see Sol Bamba making his return to football.
As he says, though, this time it is in a different costume, meaning it will be fascinating to see how he gets on.
I do think his appointment could be a wise one, though.
Coming into a tricky situation like Cardiff’s, Lamouchi having an assistant that has been there and done it with the club and knows its ins and outs can only be of benefit.
It’s going to be interesting to see how Bamba and indeed Lamouchi both get on.
