The Rossonere beat Como Women 1-0 this afternoon to mathematically clinch sixth spot - the highest Relegation Round position - with two games to spare. At the PUMA House of Football, Angelica Soffia’s first goal of the season was enough for AC Milan, who recorded their 100th victory in history. It wasn’t a thrilling encounter, but the Rossonere struck in the first half and gave very few opportunities away. A comfortable afternoon, then, with a performance full of desire.

It means that Coach Corti’s girls have immediately returned to winning ways after their draw with Pomigliano and now sit on 37 points. In general, since the league split, no team has achieved more wins than AC Milan (five, the same as Roma). Following Soffia’s finish today, 14 different players have now found the net for the Rossonere this Women’s Serie A campaign (only Roma have done better in this regard). Next week will see the team face Napoli on the road, and, once again, the Rossonere will have to show maximum commitment to come away with another victory.

MATCH REPORT AC Milan took the initiative early on. A left-footed effort from Cernoia trickled wide of the post in the fifth minute, while Piga headed off target five minutes later. With the 24 minutes on the clock, Asllani found Dompig in space, but the latter failed to find Ijeh with the final pass. The Rossonere were patiently building up play and opened the scoring in the 27th minute: Bergamaschi sent in a cross for Soffia, who nodded into the net. Immediately afterwards, Giuliani successfully thwarted Sevenius as Como looked to respond. Vigilucci then had two chances in a matter of minutes: first, she fired over on the counter (39’), and then she was set up by Bergamaschi but couldn’t convert from close range. Between these opportunities, Ijeh also had a go, but to no avail. There was also an attempt by Kaján in stoppage time, but it was a rather feeble one.

The visitors came out for the second half with a noticeably different attitude, even if they were struggling to put dangerous moves together. The Rossonere were managing the game and also threatened in the 57th minute following some nice combination play between Dompig and Ijeh, but the finish was lacking. Five minutes later, Dompig failed to double AC Milan’s advantage after Bergamaschi’s drive forward. In the 67th minute, Ijeh displayed some great footwork in a tight space to set up Laurent, whose goalbound attempt was blocked by Rizzon. Substitutions were made as the clock ticked by, but the match continued in the same manner. Ijeh unsuccessfully attempted a lob in the 87th minute, while Picchi shot wide from distance in added time. It finished 1-0.
