Gent have announced the signing of Mathias Delorge from Sint-Truiden. The 19-year-old has signed a contract with the Buffaloes until 2028, ending his time with Sint-Truiden where he has been for the past 15 years. While there had been an offer for the player from Genk, Delorge opted to move to Gent instead. The club had to make a decision when it was clear that he would not sign a new deal, with his most recent one expiring at the end of the 2024/2025 season. The fee is believed to be in the region of €3.5m.

Delorge broke into the Sint-Truiden first team last year under Thorsten Fink, who is now in charge of Genk. The Belgian U21 international made 40 appearances for the side, scoring once and grabbing five assists. He is just one of a number of talented young players Sint-Truiden introduced to the first team squad, and is the latest to leave. Both Matte Smets and Jarne Steuckers moved to Genk to join up with Fink. This certainly frustrated Sint-Truiden, seeing these young players leave to join their local rivals despite having offers from elsewhere.
