Ipswich Town are set to confirm the permanent signing of Christian Walton from Brighton & Hove Albion, as per a Twitter update from The Sun’s Alan Nixon.

Nixon on Sunday reported that the Tractor Boys were battling away with Championship outfit Luton Town for the 26-year-old’s signature.

Sunday’s update stated that Walton’s £13,000 wages were proving to be a stumbling block for both clubs, although, it was the League One club who would be more willing to meet the financial demands.

Walton spent the first half of the season on loan with the Suffolk club, proving to be a real asset for the third-tier outfit.

The 26-year-old also enjoyed a loan spell with the Hatters back during the 2016/17 campaign, with Nathan Jones revealing to Luton Today last January that he would love to sign Walton again given the chance.

The verdict

Walton enjoyed an excellent start to the League One campaign with the Tractor Boys and was a source of consistency during an inconsistent start for Ipswich on the whole.

His ability and scope to continue his progression makes him a goalkeeper who could quite easily operate at Championship level, which is where the Tractor Boys will be hoping to head this season.

Luton currently possess excellent competition in-between the sticks, with James Shea ahead of Simon Sluga in the starting XI as things stand.

Sluga, who signed a three-year contract when he first arrived in 2019, could see his contract extended for an extra year at Kenilworth Road, with the Hatters
