Shock recall to Rangers on the cards for Jose Cifuentes

Rangers are set to receive failure Ecuadorial signing Jose Cifuentes back in four weeks after Cruzeiro’s main investor, Ronaldo, known as Ronaldo Nazário these days, pulled his funding and plunged the Brazilian side back into debt.

Reaching a massive profit from his investment (£30M in his pocket) the Brazilian legend will sell for around £105M and that means Cruzeiro will not be able to afford to sign Cifu when the loan expires.

This means despite the loan expiring in December, Rangers may consider recalling the midfielder now so we can prepare a summer sale, because come the end of the year the chances of the South American side being able to fulfil a purchase is massively reduced – they’ve just effectively lost £100M of funding, and were already in debt despite it.

But the loan agreement to buy was just that, an option, not an obligation, and with this loss of revenue Rangers may elect to reduce the risk and recall him.

Ronaldo himself said:

“Maybe some (Cruzeiro fans) have exaggerated a little going against me, but this is irrelevant to me. I know most fans are grateful to me and my team for putting Cruzeiro back in the national and international scene. My goal was reached. That was always the idea — to bring Cruzeiro back and, at the right time, give it to the right person.”

Well they’re 7th after 4 matches into their second season back in Brazil’s Serie A so we’re not sure they’re quite ‘back’ but at least they’re not second division any longer.

That said, we’d be very surprised now if they can afford Cifu now with that loss of funding.

Might have to sell him this summer to someone else.
