West Brom continued their flying start to the season with a win over Championship newboys Wrexham
West Bromwich Albion continued their perfect start to the 2025/26 Championship campaign with a 3-2 victory over Wrexham, and chairman Shilen Patel has sent a message to the club and its fans after a second league success on the spin.
A brace courtesy of Isaac Price came either side of Jed Wallace’s first goal for the Baggies since January to take all three points back to The Hawthorns from North Wales.
Ryan Mason’s side bounced back quickly from their EFL Cup exit midweek to hand Wrexham their second consecutive defeat, despite goals from Lewis O’Brien and Sam Smith.
Given the Red Dragons’ global profile, due to owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s Hollywood status, the Welsh outfit have somewhat of a target on their backs upon entering the second-tier for the first time since 1982.
Albion were quick to take a jab at this following their victory, and chairman Patel commented in the aftermath of the success on away soil.
With elation swirling around the coaches heading back to the Black Country following an excellent win on the road, West Brom were keen to capture the mood via their X account.
Posting an image of the famous Hollywood sign, poking fun at Wrexham’s high-profile ownership, the Baggies reimagined the iconic landmark to spell “Up the Albion!” instead.
Supporters revelled in this, capping off a fantastic victory with a swipe at their latest defeated opponents.
Club chairman Shilen Patel quoted the post, saying: “Well done by the lads! Traveling support was immense as well, bringing all the atmosphere! We keep writing our story."
Many of the Baggies faithful were delighted by Patel's words and were quick to hail the American businessman for his backing of new head coach Ryan Mason over the summer, with more signings likely to arrive.
Florida-based Patel has been the West Bromwich Albion majority shareholder since 2024, acquiring 87.8% of the club from Guochuan Lai.
Alongside Mason’s arrival, Patel has backed the club by adding quality throughout the squad, acquiring the likes of Aune Heggebø, Nat Phillips, George Campbell, Krystian Bielik and Toby Collyer.
Last season was disappointing to say the least for Albion, after failing to mount a sustained play-off charge and eventually settling for ninth place.
Four different managers took charge of the side at one point or another, with stability nowhere to be found within the Hawthorns.
However, with Mason now in control and some smart, exciting new additions within the West Brom ranks, there is a renewed optimism among the Baggies’ fanbase.
