Sheffield Wednesday are still celebrating after completing the great escape and maintaining their Championship status, but attention will soon turn to building a squad for next season.

Danny Rohl made two crucial loan signings in the January window, with both Ike Ugbo and Ian Poveda playing huge roles in the Owls surviving, and the club would certainly like to keep them at Hillsborough next season.

Poveda joined the club on loan from Yorkshire rivals Leeds United, and the Colombian international made a big impact, featuring ten times for the Owls, registering one assist.

The 24-year-old is out of contract at Elland Road this season, and is set to become a free agent, so it remains to be seen where he'll end up next season.

However, if Rohl is unable to get a deal over the line for Poveda, there may be a ready-made replacement waiting at one of their Championship rivals in Callum Robinson.

Sheffield Wednesday could turn to Callum Robinson this summer

Callum Robinson has a wealth of Championship experience, and the Republic of Ireland international has spent the last two seasons at Cardiff City.

If Wednesday are unable to get a deal over the line for Poveda, then Robinson could well be a good signing, particularly as he seems to have fallen out of favour under Erol Bulut at Cardiff recently.

The 29-year-old is vastly experienced at this level, and has also played for Bristol City, Preston, West Brom, Aston Villa and Sheffield United - which may not go down too well with the Owls' faithful.

In total, Robinson has made 238 Championship appearances, scoring 49 goals, and registering 35 assists, so he would be a good addition to most sides in the division.

However, it's been a difficult season for the Irishman at Cardiff, with injuries and other disciplinary issues meaning he's played just 25 games in all competitions, with just nine league starts, and has scored just two league goals.

He was recently excluded from the matchday squad by Erol Bulut for disciplinary issues, and you feel as if the pair don't get on too well.

With a year left on his deal in the Welsh capital, he could be available on a cut-price deal this summer, and it wouldn't be a surprise if he moved on, with the player clearly needing a fresh start.

If Danny Rohl was able to get a tune out of Robinson, he'd be a very good addition this summer, and they should be keeping an eye on his situation at the Bluebirds.

Ian Poveda will likely attract a lot of interest this summer

The Owls can't put all their eggs in one basket for Ian Poveda this summer as the Colombian international will likely attract a lot of interest as a free agent this summer.

Despite Poveda seemingly enjoying his time at Hillsborough, they may not be able to fight off transfer interest, particularly if the Colombian international attracts transfer interest from abroad.

This means that Danny Rohl and the Owls' scouts should be looking elsewhere if they're unable to sign Poveda, and should be looking at more realistic targets.

As a young Colombian international, Poveda could well attract interest from South America or Spain, and the ex-Barcelona youngster's wage demands could be too high for Sheffield Wednesday.
