Coventry yet to make his mark at West Ham

Having come through the youth ranks at West Ham, Coventry is yet to become a regular presence for the Hammers at first-team level.

To date, the 23-year-old has made just ten first-team appearances for the club, only one of which has come in the Premier League.

Instead, much of his first-team experience has so far been developed through loan moves to the Football League, with the likes of Lincoln, Peterborough United, MK Dons and Rotherham United.

Now it seems that with the January transfer window once again open, Coventry could be set for another temporary move away from West Ham, with Hillsborough one potential destination.

Sheffield Wednesday planning West Ham transfer raid

According to this latest update, Coventry is one player that Sheffield Wednesday are keeping an eye on, as they look to add to their squad during the market.

Indeed it is thought that West Ham could be willing to let Coventry out on loan this month, despite the fact he may feature for them in their FA Cup third round clash with Bristol City this weekend.

However, Wednesday are not alone with their interest in the midfielder. A number of other Football League clubs, and teams from abroad, are also said to be keen on the West Ham man.

As a result, the Owls are not currently thought to be among the frontrunners to sign Coventry this month.

Interestingly, one of those other clubs linked with Coventry, Charlton Athletic, are apparently closing in on the loan signing of Sheffield Wednesday's own midfielder, Tyreeq Bakinson.

Sheffield Wednesday fighting to avoid Championship relegation

Following their promotion from League One at the end of last season, Sheffield Wednesday are now battling to avoid an immediate return to the third-tier.

Things have picked up since the arrival of Danny Rohl as manager in August, although they are still 22nd in the Championship table, three points from safety.

The Owls are next in action on Saturday when they host Cardiff City in the third round of the FA Cup, before returning to Championship action with a trip to Southampton on the 13th January.

Coventry could be a useful signing for Sheffield Wednesday

If Sheffield Wednesday do end up making a deal for Coventry happen, it could be a good piece of business for them.

With Bakinson seemingly on his way out and others absent through injury or suspension, they could benefit from some reinforcements in the centre of the park.

Coventry would provide that for them, and having built a strong reputation with his performances elsewhere, could certainly prove to be a decent figure to fill that void with.

As a result, Sheffield Wednesday may well want to ensure that they are among the clubs in with a chance of completing a deal for Coventry, at some point in the next few weeks.
