Sven Claes is reporting that Sheffield United will soon announce the signing of Vinícius Souza from Belgian second division side Lommel SK. According to Claes, the transfer will be for around €12m, which will be the record for an outgoing transfer from the Belgian second tier. The 24-year-old Brazilian central midfielder spent the 2022/2023 season on loan at Spanish side Espanyol.

Souza joined the City Group club Lommel in 2020 from Brazilian side Flamengo. He made just seven appearances for the Brazilian side before moving to Europe. During his first season in Belgium, he played 18 games for Lommel. The 2021/2022 season saw the midfielder join KV Mechelen on loan, where he impressed in their midfield alongside Rob Schoofs. Souza played 35 times for Malinwa, scoring twice and providing one assist.
