Sheffield United player grades in crushing 4-1 defeat to Burnley | OneFootball

Sheffield United are all but mathematically relegated after losing 4-1 at Bramall Lane against second bottom Burnley.

First half goals from Jacob Bruun Larsen and Lorenz Assignon, albeit coming against the run of play, put the Blades behind the eight ball in a crucial contest. But Gustavo Hamer did his best to try and mount a Sheffield United comeback in the 52nd minute, only for the Clarets to add another two goals through Lyle Foster and Johann Gudmundsson.

Player grades

Ivo Grbic: 2

The former Atletico Madrid keeper does not fill me with confidence in the slightest, and Saturday’s performance may be the final time we see Grbic in a Sheffield United shirt this season. His distribution is consistently poor, and his reactions continue to be worrying.

Jayden Bogle: 5

Didn’t have his best of games, nevertheless, his effort still remained – highlighted by a brilliant solo effort in the final stages of the match when he took on two or three Burnley players at once.

Anel Ahmedhodzic: 4

Had moments on the ball where he looked to carve open Burnley in the first half but his head seemed to drop as soon as the quick fire first and second goal went in. Questionable marking in the second half.

Auston Trusty: 3

In all honesty Trusty looked lost out there. He was caught out of position or caught on his heels often as Burnley players peeled off him and breezed past him.

Ben Osborn: 5

Despite his efforts, the quality of output just wasn’t great from Osborn from crossing opportunities. Although he put in a couple of dangerous balls into the box, he ultimately ended the game recording just two out of 12 accurate long balls and one out of six accurate crosses.

Vinicius Souza: 2

Once again, the Brazilian was to blame for a goal. For the third Burnley goal he allowed Assignon to run beyond him off the ball and didn’t track his man. With Assignon in a crossing opportunity, Souza didn’t even break stride to close the space.

Oliver Arblaster: 6

Arblaster showed glimpses of brilliance when he skipped past challenges in the centre of the pitch and looked to feed the ball into the likes of McAtee and Gustavo Hamer in the final third.

Gustavo Hamer: 7

Hamer can come out of another game with plenty  of credit as he continues to carry Sheffield United from a creative standpoint. United’s number eight threatened to get the Blades back into the game with his early second half goal. He registered three key passes and one of those should have been an assist, but Ben Brereton-Diaz failed to take his early chance.

Ben Brereton-Diaz: 5

The Chilean offered a dynamic threat in the early proceedings and on another day, with better decision making and luck, he could’ve had two goals in the first half. As Burnley started to exert their dominance, he started to drift out of the game.

Oli McBurnie: 6

McBurnie’s hold up and link up play was very good at times. But he will be kicking himself having missed a great chance early doors which would have changed the game completely had he scored it.

James McAtee: 6

Skillfully maneuvered past Burnley’s left-back and he located McBurnie with precision in the middle of the box. In the second half, he carved out an opportunity for himself through fluid teamwork, only to see his bending shot expertly deflected around the post by Muric. The Manchester City loanee also registered an assist for Hamer shortly after.
