Serie A has opened up to outside investment with a €2 billion deal in the works although it could prove controversial, according to a report in the Italian media today.

As has been reported by La Repubblica, Serie A has returned to the idea of investment from outside and it is soon to receive an offer from the Carlyle Fund. The negotiation is intertwined with the new tender for the TV rights.

It is reported that the plan of resorting to funds and, consequently, to a League channel, would be a sort of plan B, considering TV rights as plan A, since the vast majority of revenues in Serie A comes precisely from television.

The objective is to sell the matches to spectators and therefore maximise revenues for the future. The investment that arrives would then receive a share of the revenues made which could be 10% for the €2 billion investment.

Many club presidents are against the move as it lessens their power.
