There are initiatives to remember Cagliari legend Gigi Riva ahead of tonight’s match against mid-table Torino.
It kicks off at the Unipol Domus Stadium at 19.45 GMT.
The region of Sardinia was shaken by the news on Monday night that Scudetto winner Riva had died of heart failure at the age of 79.
He spent practically his entire career in the Cagliari jersey, taking them to their only Serie A title in 1970, and was also the record all-time top scorer for Italy.
Riva will be remembered with a minute’s silence before each Serie A and B game this weekend, but here also with a video played on the screens.
Cagliari players will wear a warm-up kit reminiscent of the 1970 Scudetto-winning version, then during the match sponsors have been removed and instead Riva’s iconic 11 will be on their chests.
As for the match itself, Marco Mancosu had surgery on a knee injury and will be out for three months, joining Marko Rog, Gaetano Oristanio and Eldor Shomurodov on the treatment table.
Zito Luvumbo is still at the Africa Cup of Nations and Edoardo Goldaniga left out pending a transfer.
Torino are missing Koffi Djidji, Brandon Soppy, Ivan Ilic, Nemnaja Radonjic and Perr Schuurs.
