Speaking to Telemundo Canal 12, Uruguay goalkeeper Sergio Rochet expressed his “bitterness” and “sadness” at his team’s group stage exit from the World Cup, saying:
“Bitterness, sadness, that’s what I feel and it’s what the whole squad feels and what all of Uruguay feels. On the other hand, I’m proud because we gave everything but we didn’t play like we have been doing, but we gave 100%… It is not easy to debut in a World Cup, even in a group as good as ours. Everything that happened afterward can be summed up by sadness.”
Uruguay could only draw 0-0 with South Korea before losing 2-0 to Portugal in Group H. A 2-0 win over Ghana in their final game proved not to be enough to take Diego Alonso’s team into the last 16 as South Korea beat a weakened Portugal to squeeze through.
