Joan Martínez is currently working his way through the Real Madrid system at youth level, but recent comments on his potential have drawn comparisons to Real Madrid icon Sergio Ramos.
It seems to be something natural that occurs in football, as soon as a player starts displaying a hint of potential, they begin to draw comparisons to the legends of the game that came before.
This has been the case for 16-year-old Real Madrid prospect Martínez, whose recent displays in training have given him the moniker of ‘Sergio Ramos 2.0’ and have gifted him a call-up to his club’s pre-season tour of the U.S.
As per Diario AS, these performances have also drawn the attention of Premier League clubs Manchester United and Chelsea, however, initial reports are that the defender would prefer to remain within the Real Madrid system.
The youngster started out at his local team UD Alginet, before joining Levante at 7 years old, and then more recently making the move to Real Madrid in 2023.
The youngster’s comparisons to Sergio Ramos don’t just come as a result of his potential either, the legendary defender is the youngster’s idol and represents a style of play the 16-year-old is looking to emulate as his career progresses.
All we know for now is that the sky is the limit for the young starlet and that his name is one to keep an eye on in the years to come.
