Serge Gnabry has suggested not reading too much into Bayern Munich’s stuttering pre-season form.
The Bavarians slumped to a 3-0 defeat to Serie A side Napoli on Saturday, leaving them with a record of one draw and three losses from four friendlies.
However new manager Julian Nagelsmann has had to deal with the staggered return of some of the club’s key players, which Gnabry insists is important context to apply to recent results.
“It’s the processes. We haven’t played together for a few months, have only been training with most of them for a week,” the winger told the Bayern’s internal media.
“It will take time. It will all take time until we have regained that and the new things that the coach demands come along. It will get a lot better over time.”
Bayern will have a few days to get ready for Friday’s DFB Pokal first-round clash with lower league Bremer SV before beginning the defence of their Bundesliga title against Borussia Mönchengladbach a week later.
And Gnabry expects to see a dramatic improvement in that period.
“We will do our best in training. We will be ready against Gladbach and hopefully perform as before,” the Germany international said.
Gnabry had his least productive of three seasons with Bayern last year, scoring 11 times and creating seven goals in 38 appearances (via Transfermarkt).
