Speaking in an interview with Le Monde, ex-FIFA President Sepp Blatter has further insisted that ex-French President Nicolas Sarkozy told then UEFA President Michel Platini to vote for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
“Sarkozy invited Platini to join the end of a lunch at the Elysee Palace attended by Crown Prince Tamim. Platini called me the next morning to say: “You can probably no longer count on me & my voices because the head of state asked if I could support Qatar.” I was of course, frustrated with Platini.”
Platini has already clapped back:
“It has been 5 years since Sepp Blatter made the same false and baseless allegation. I thought that getting older gave access to wisdom & truth. What he says is absolutely false… It was totally impossible for Nicolas Sarkozy to influence my vote.”
