Charlton Athletic defender Pape Souare will be allowed to leave the club this month, according to the South London Press.

The ex-Crystal Palace left-back only joined the Addicks in September, returning to London after a spell with French side Troyes.

A 26-cap Senegal international, Souare has played nine times for Charlton in League One this season but has failed to make their matchday squad for their last three league encounters.

Yes No

And with the arrival of Chelsea wing-back Juan Familia-Castillo this week, it has pushed the 31-year-old down the pecking order to the point that he will be allowed to leave to seek more game-time.

The Addicks will not require a transfer fee either for Souare, meaning he is free to seek a new challenge after seemingly becoming at least third choice in his position.

Souare’s contract will expire this summer but that could potentially be settled early should he be able to find a new club in the next week before the window slams shut until the end of the season.

The Verdict

It’s clear that Souare is not the same player that he was when he signed for Crystal Palace in 2015.

A car accident a year-and-a-half into his time with the Eagles probably dented some of his ability and confidence but when he arrived in September it was thought that he may have what it takes to shine in League One.

That hasn’t happened though and with Castillo’s arrival this past week it has only left the Senegalese man even further in the cold.

He could end up linking up with another EFL side but either way it doesn’t look like he will be getting any game-time at The Valley between now and the end of the season.
