21-year-old reported Liverpool transfer target Sven Botman has refused to rule out a move to the Premier League at the end of the season.

Botman, who has been linked with a transfer to Anfield, has admitted that the Premier League is a division he has dreamed about playing in and has watched it throughout his life. He adds that the Serie A, La Liga and the Bundesliga are also leagues that interest him.

The Lille centre-back, however, has said that he will enjoy a vacation this summer and then he will see what happens during the transfer window.

Speaking to The Athletic, Botman reacted to interest from the Premier League. “It is a good compliment when you hear these clubs are interested.

“I’m lying if I say it’s not interesting me — it’s the first time such big clubs are linked to me — but it was early days, because in January I was only at Lille for half a season. It was nice to hear but I was focusing on Lille and I’m still doing this. After the season, I will enjoy a vacation and see what happens next.

“If I’m honest, the Premier League is one of the leagues I dreamed about… but also Serie A, La Liga, the Bundesliga. The Premier League is something special. It’s the football I really like and that fits me.

“The style of play, the emotion; I really like to see the fans with such big emotions in the stands. It is a beautiful competition I really like to watch, and did for pretty much all my life.”

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

Whilst the report claims that Liverpool were interested in a move for Botman earlier this year, it remains to be seen whether or not that is still the case. Liverpool are reportedly set to sign Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig for £30.5m at the end of the season, which would mean a 21-year-old centre-back would already be in the door for big money. Therefore, would Liverpool still need to go and splash out on Botman? Possibly not.

There is no doubting that Botman has enjoyed a fine season in France. He has started 36 of Lille’s 37 Ligue 1 games so far, with a win on the final day of the campaign securing the league title ahead of PSG. Botman has averaged an impressive WhoScored rating of 7.01 across those 36 games, showing remarkable consistency and quality for such a young player. The 21-year-old has averaged 6.5 aerial battles won and clearances made per game in Ligue 1 and has completed 87.6% of his passes, which could suggest that he has earned a move to the Premier League, but it looks unlikely to be with Liverpool.
